Our Christian Ethos
"Brothers and sisters, continue to think about the things which are good and worthy of praise. Think about the things which are true and honourable and right and pure and beautiful and respected. Do what I told you and what you saw me do. And the God who gives peace will be with you." Philippians 4:8-9
Our school values Paul's teaching to the people of Philippi so that those things worthy of praise are cherished in everybody's lives so that all may truly flourish. We like to think that a thread of Pembridge runs through each of us like the Holy Spirit, nourishing and strengthening us day by day.
Our Year 5 and Year 6 pupils helped to write this special acrostic poem which reflects those words from Paul.
Our teaching and learning, the opportunities we provide for enriching lives through music, sport, drama and art, and how we build relationships between all members of the school community all point to ensuring our children aspire to and have the skills to achieve great things - whether now or sometime in the future.
In 2016, The Church of England published a document for schools entitled 'Deeply Christian, Serving the Common Good' which identifies four strands which are an integral part of how Pembridge CE Primary School lives its Christian life:
- Educating for Wisdom, Knowledge and Skills
- Educating for Hope and Aspiration
- Educating for Community and Well-being
- Educating for Dignity and Respect
The Ethos Committee, which includes members of the Governing Body, staff, the Rector and the local community meets termly to identify how the school can fully meet its vision to provide 'inspiring learning through faith and values'. It has reflected on the school's provision to meet these four strands - do read it here.
Our Christian ethos is both a distinctive, yet inclusive, part of how our school community relates to each other, in the values we explore, through the worship we celebrate together and in our teaching and learning.
